How To Use Rationale AI
Getting Started (2 minutes)
- Go to rationale.jina.ai and create an account. The interface is minimal - just a text box and a few options.
- Type in a decision you're trying to make. Be specific: "Should I take the new job offer in another city?" or "Should we pivot our product strategy to focus on enterprise customers?"
- Choose your analysis type: Pros & Cons, SWOT Analysis, Multi-Criteria Analysis, or Cost-Benefit. Each one structures the decision differently.
- Hit Generate and wait a few seconds. Rationale AI analyzes your decision from multiple angles and gives you a structured breakdown.
- Review the output and add your own thoughts. The AI gives you a framework - you make the final call based on your values and context.
How Rationale Structures Decisions
Instead of just listing pros and cons, Rationale forces you to think through decisions systematically:
- Pros & Cons - Classic format, but weighted by importance. The AI flags which factors matter most based on your situation.
- SWOT Analysis - Breaks down Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats for business or career decisions.
- Multi-Criteria Analysis - Scores your options against multiple factors (cost, time, risk, impact) so you can see which choice wins overall.
- Cost-Benefit - Quantifies the trade-offs in tangible and intangible terms. Helps when money, time, and energy are all competing factors.
Pro Tips
- Give context in your prompt. Don't just say "Should I switch careers?" Add details: your current salary, how much you like your job, your financial goals. The more context, the better the analysis.
- Use it for team decisions, not just personal ones. Copy the output into a doc and share it with your team. It's a great starting point for meetings where everyone has different opinions.
- Run multiple analysis types on the same decision. A Pros & Cons list might lean one way, but a SWOT could reveal risks you hadn't considered. Compare outputs to get the full picture.
What It's NOT Good For
- Decisions with moral or ethical weight. Rationale can structure the logic, but it can't tell you what's right or wrong. Use your own judgment for anything involving ethics, relationships, or values.
- Decisions that need real-time data. The AI works with the info you give it. If your decision hinges on market data, competitor moves, or financial projections, you'll need to research those separately and feed them in.
