How To Use QuillBot

Getting Started (2 minutes)

  1. Go to quillbot.com and click Log In (or just start using it - no account required for basic features). You can sign up with Google or email if you want to save your work.
  2. You'll see a big text box that says Paraphraser. Paste in any sentence or paragraph you want to rewrite, then hit Paraphrase. You'll get a rewritten version in about two seconds.
  3. Try the dropdown at the top to switch modes: Standard keeps it close to the original. Fluency smooths it out. Creative changes it up more. Formal makes it sound professional.
  4. Click the Grammar Checker tab at the top to paste in your writing and catch typos, awkward phrasing, and grammar mistakes. It highlights errors and suggests fixes instantly.
  5. Install the Chrome extension so QuillBot lives inside Gmail, Google Docs, and anywhere else you write online. Highlight text, right-click, and paraphrase or check grammar without leaving the page.

Tools Worth Using

QuillBot has a full suite, not just paraphrasing:

  • Paraphraser - Rewrite sentences to sound clearer, more formal, or just different. Great for avoiding repetitive phrasing or making something easier to read.
  • Grammar Checker - Catches typos, punctuation errors, and awkward sentence structure. More thorough than a basic spellcheck.
  • Summarizer - Paste in a long article or document and get the key points in bullet form or a short paragraph. Saves time when you're researching.
  • Citation Generator - Drop in a URL, book title, or article and QuillBot formats it in APA, MLA, or Chicago style. No more guessing where the comma goes.

Pro Tips

  • Don't trust the paraphraser blindly. It's fast, but sometimes it changes the meaning slightly or picks a weird word. Always read the output before using it, especially if it's something important like a work email or school paper.
  • Use Synonym Slider to control how much it changes. Drag the slider left to keep most of the original wording. Drag it right to rephrase more aggressively. Helpful when you want to keep technical terms but smooth out the rest.
  • Combine tools for faster editing. Paraphrase a rough draft to clean up awkward phrasing, then run the Grammar Checker to catch mistakes the paraphraser might've introduced. Two passes beats one.

What It's NOT Good For

  • Making bad writing sound brilliant. QuillBot can smooth out clunky sentences, but it won't fix unclear ideas or weak arguments. If the underlying thought is vague, paraphrasing won't save it.
  • Generating original content from scratch. This isn't ChatGPT. QuillBot rewrites what you give it - it doesn't create new paragraphs or research topics for you.
