How To Use Hevy
Getting Started (2 minutes)
- Download Hevy from the App Store or Google Play - it's a workout tracking app.
- Open the app and create an account. You can sign in with Apple, Google, or email.
- You'll see a simple home screen with Start Workout front and center. Tap it.
- Search for an exercise (like "bench press" or "squats") or browse by muscle group.
- Tap an exercise to add it to your workout. Enter your sets, reps, and weight. The app auto-fills previous numbers so you know what you lifted last time.
- When you finish your workout, hit Finish and Hevy saves everything. You'll see your progress over time in charts and personal records.
Workout Templates
Start with these - adjust weight and reps to your level.
- Push day (chest, shoulders, triceps): Bench press (4 sets x 8 reps), overhead press (3x10), dips (3x12), tricep pushdowns (3x15). Track your weight on the first two - aim to increase every 2 weeks.
- Pull day (back, biceps): Deadlifts (4x6), pull-ups (3x8), barbell rows (3x10), bicep curls (3x12). Log everything. You'll forget what you lifted last week if you don't.
- Leg day: Squats (4x8), Romanian deadlifts (3x10), leg press (3x12), calf raises (4x15). Hevy will remind you that you did 185 lbs last time - try for 190 today.
Pro Tips
- Use the rest timer. After you finish a set, Hevy starts a countdown (default is 90 seconds). It keeps you from scrolling Instagram for 5 minutes between sets.
- Check your personal records. The app tracks every PR (personal record) - heaviest squat, most pull-ups, longest plank. Seeing those numbers go up is surprisingly motivating.
- Follow workout programs. Hevy has built-in programs like "5x5 Strength" or "Push Pull Legs." Instead of making up your workout every time, just follow a plan.
What It's NOT Good For
- Cardio tracking. Hevy is built for lifting. If you're a runner or cyclist, use Strava instead.
- Nutrition logging. It tracks workouts, not meals. Pair it with MyFitnessPal if you want diet tracking too.
