How To Use ElevenLabs

Getting Started (2 minutes)

Go to elevenlabs.io and sign up free with Google or email.
Click Text to Speech in the sidebar. Paste or type your text in the box.
Pick a voice from the library , dozens of options across accents, ages, and styles. Hit Generate.
Listen to the preview. If you like it, download the MP3. Browse the Voice Library for community-created voices if you want more variety.

These aren't chat prompts , they're use cases with tips for getting the best results.

Podcast intro: Paste your intro script ? pick a warm, conversational voice ? generate. For extra polish, use "Speech to Speech" to record yourself first and let AI match your natural cadence.
Video narration: Paste your script ? choose a professional narrator voice ? increase the stability slider for consistent, even delivery.
Audiobook chapter: Paste a full chapter ? pick a storytelling voice ? lower the stability slightly for more natural emotion and variation between paragraphs.
Product demo voiceover: "Welcome to [product]. Let me show you how to [key action]..." ? pick an energetic, clear voice.
Content in other languages: Paste English text ? use the Dubbing feature to auto-translate and speak it in 29+ languages, keeping the same voice character.

Voice cloning is the headline feature. Upload about 1 minute of someone speaking and ElevenLabs creates an AI clone of that voice. Then type any text and it speaks in that voice. The quality is remarkably close to the real thing.
Play with the Stability and Similarity sliders. Lower stability = more emotional range (good for storytelling). Higher stability = more even delivery (good for corporate narration). Similarity controls how closely it matches the original voice.
Use Projects for long content. For audiobooks, courses, or multi-chapter content, the Projects feature lets you manage everything in one place , assign voices to characters, generate chapter by chapter, and keep settings consistent.

Heavy use on the free plan. You get a small character allowance per month for free. Any real production work (podcasts, videos, audiobooks) requires a paid plan starting around $5/month.
Ethical gray areas. The voice cloning technology can replicate anyone's voice from a short sample. ElevenLabs has safeguards in place, but it's worth understanding what this technology means , and making sure you have permission before cloning someone's voice.
