Prompt Templates

Copy and paste , swap the brackets for your details.

  • Realistic photo: "A photorealistic image of [scene description], shot with a Canon EOS R5, natural lighting, shallow depth of field"
  • Illustration: "A whimsical watercolor illustration of [subject], soft pastel colors, children's book style"
  • Logo concept: "A minimalist logo design for a company called [name] that does [industry]. Clean lines, modern, 2-3 colors max."
  • Icon for a presentation: "An icon-style illustration of [concept], flat design, single color on white background, suitable for an infographic"
  • Edit an existing image: Upload a photo ? "Edit this image to [describe the change]" , DALL-E modifies specific parts while keeping the rest.

Pro Tips

  • Name the medium for dramatically different results. Adding "watercolor," "oil painting," "pixel art," "3D render," or "photography" to your prompt completely changes the output. Be specific about the look you want.
  • Edit specific regions instead of regenerating. Select a portion of a generated image and ask DALL-E to change only that area. Way more efficient than starting over when you like 90% of what you got.
  • Use conversation context. Unlike standalone image tools, DALL-E in ChatGPT remembers what you've been talking about. Say "Make the logo from earlier but in blue" and it knows what you mean.

What It's NOT Good For

  • Text in images. DALL-E often misspells words or produces garbled letters. If your design needs specific text, generate the image here and add text in Canva or another editor.
  • Gallery-quality art. For high-end, visually striking artwork, Midjourney currently produces more polished results. DALL-E is better for quick, practical images , blog graphics, social posts, concept mockups.
