How To Use Brain.fm
What It Does
Brain.fm plays music engineered to help your brain focus, relax, or sleep. It's not Spotify playlists. The audio includes special patterns that increase your brain's focus by up to 119% (backed by neuroscience research funded by the National Science Foundation).
Getting Started (5 steps)
- Sign up at brain.fm or download the app (iOS, Android, or desktop)
- Choose your goal: Focus, Relax, or Sleep
- Pick your session length (or tap "Infinite" to keep going)
- Select a music style you like (electronic, acoustic, cinematic, etc.)
- Hit play and start your work or wind-down. No need to touch it again
Key Features
- Focus Mode: Deep Work, Creativity, Learning, each has different intensity levels
- Sleep Mode: Wind Down, Deep Sleep, Power Nap sessions with delta wave audio
- Relax Mode: Destress, Recharge, Chill soundscapes with alpha wave patterns
- High Neural Effect: Extra stimulation setting for ADHD brains or extra-tough focus days
- Activity Timers: Count-up, count-down, or interval timers to match your workflow
Pro Tips
- Try "High Neural Effect" if regular focus music isn't cutting through your distraction
- Use the Wind Down session 30 minutes before bed to signal your brain it's time to sleep
- On days when you can't focus, switch to "Creativity" mode instead of forcing Deep Work
What It's NOT Good For
- Background music for parties or workouts (it's designed to fade into the background, not entertain)
- Quick 5-minute tasks (it works best when you let it run for 20+ minutes)
Pricing
- Free: 5 free sessions to test it out
- Paid: $6.99/month or $49.99/year (20% student discount available)
Time to Value
Useful in 5 minutes, most people notice better focus within the first session.
